Incredibly talented, Stephanie Todd is releasing her first single "Battle" on Tuesday July 23rd, 2013, on Monarchy Records, a division of the Spectra Music Group.
Stephanie Todd; a name we are destined to know for years to come. The sultry, bilingual songstress began singing at the tender age of four. Stephanie is the youngest of five children raised by their Costa Rican father and mother hailing from Guatemala. Having made it to the other side of adversity; a more mature Stephanie Todd is now living in New York City and poised to make a significant impact on today’
s music scene.
Stephanie developed her love for music while being raised in church, where here musical roots began. “We would often go up to sing specials at church”
, she says. Throughout her early years, she wrote and sang songs regularly; learning to accompany herself with instruments. Determined to pursue her dreams of sharing her experiences, through song with the world, Stephanie attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. There she was introduced to Jazz, the main style of music that continues to inspire her today.
She was particularly impressed with the music of Etta James and Nina Simone, among others. After one semester of study, an increasing desire to share her music and encouragement from a professor, Stephanie left Berklee. She moved to Harlem, New York where she continued to perfect her talent through writing and performing. After singing in many open mics, Stephanie began entering in showcases. In 2005, she won the showcase that introduced to her to current managers at MoJaz Entertainment.
Stephanie makes no qualms that if it were not for her managers, she is not sure where she would be personally and musically. “They have been a perfect mirror, reflecting back to me my power as an artist and individual; encouraging and reminding me to reach for new heights; to sing and write like I never have before. I would not be the artist or person I am today, without them." says Stephanie.
In addition to Jazz vocalists, Stephanie enjoys the music of Adele, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def ,Nina Simone, Bon lver, among others. Stephanie’
s dreams of sharing her experiences, both good and bad, with the world are crystallizing. “You don’t have to be happy all the time. Where you are, at any given time is powerful and real”, says Stephanie. “That’s what I want to come across in my music”
